The Details
The home is located on Ski Hill road in Pakenham, just before the ski hill. It is available for viewing by appointment.
The home was designed to be green, authentic, energy efficient & modern.
All materials are green including:

- Eastern White Pine log walls, floor systems & roof system

The log style is of authentic Canadian full scribe technique using round logs. The trees used in the home are approximately 200-250 years old, close to life expectancy. They would soon fall to the ground after they were harvested. Instead, they are preserved in this home. We harvest no young growth timber & we make sure we don’t take trees from the forest, we save them! Building with logs is one of the oldest forms of construction. Some of the oldest buildings in the world are made of log. Native & Pioneer Canadians used primarily log for their structures. Log homes help celebrate our heritage, preserve the past, & protect the future!
The energy efficiency of the home lies in its super-insulated envelope & radiant heating system. The basement is R-40, Log walls R-40, & Roof System is R-40 as well. Many people do not understand the insulative qualities of a Pine Log. Pine is rated at an equivalant R-Value of 2.5 per inch (ASHRAE – American Society of Heating, Refridgeration, and Air conditioning) Logs, technically do not have a R-factor since R represents the rate of heat tranfer. Logs have a U-factor which represents the rate of heat flow through a substance. The rate of heat flow through a log is extremely slow. The log is also able to absorb a tremendous amount of heat and radiate it back to the warm side of the building. This is called thermal mass which is the reason why log homes are easier to heat in the winter and easier to cool in the summer. Logs are most efficient in their natural round shape.
Radiant in-floor heating systems are a more efficient way to heat any building. They require less energy to maintain a comfortable temperature. In a radiant heated home where the temperature is set at 60%, it feels like a forced-air heated home where the temperature is set at 75%. The principle is: if your feet are warm, your body is warm. An electric boiler is the power supply, therefore, having zero emissions.
The Pakenham is our model home & it is a modern homes as well. Using new-age green material, log building with the latest construction techniques, and a bright & clean interior, the home would appeal to most people, even those who are not present log home lovers. To some, it is a belief that log homes are “dark & dingy”. This is a myth from the past. “People! Log homes advance as well!” The home has its log walls on the inside preserved the natural, bright white pine colour. The color of wood will deepen when exposed to sunlight. You can prevent this by applying a UV inhibitor which is what we have done in our home. Thanks to the white walls coupled with an open concept design – as you stroll through the home – you feel re-vitalized.
Modern log building techniques allow the home to have tight-fitting joinery for generations to come.
Underscribing is the technique and it was invented here in Canada. It is a shrink-to-fit joinery technique where a log builder can use green logs to build a home & even though the logs are going to shrink, the joinery will remain tight forever.
